Got Back Pain??
Let's unwind one of the most common classes of back pain, "Flexion-Based" injuries. These are typically caused by repeated forward bending (slumping or hunching the spine sternum to belly, without bending your hips/knees). Especially when repeated, or prolonged, this is a recipe for pain...but the good news is that you can heal, and very rarely are X-rays, MRI's, or CT's needed. They're expensive pictures that often don't affect your method of physical rehabilitation. Bottom line, keep moving (extension is preferred), and seek out PT to expedite the healing process. If caught early enough, a few visits should do it.
HEALTHY TIDBITS...
If you benefit from even 1 little nugget of information here, you're 1 step closer to a healthier you.
It's not shocking that poor sleep habits and lack of exercise are closely linked to chronic disease and disability. Here are some basic tips to consider if you want to make yourself more resilient as you age.
Our Story
Cynthia Lycans, DPT, MTC
Owner
Dr. Lycans graduated from Tuscarawas Valley High School in 2001, received her BS in Allied Medical Professions from The Ohio State University in 2005, and went on to earn her DPT (Doctorate of Physical Therapy) from The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2008, making the trip back to the beach in 2009 to earn her Manual Therapy Certification. She spent 8 years initially as a staff PT, working into a clinic director position with Physiotherapy Associates in Columbus, OH, and came back to her roots in NE Ohio in 2016 to work for Hennis Care Centre, where she is currently still on PRN staff. She specializes in spine care and vestibular rehab/fall prevention, but also enjoys treating runners and general weekend warrior (overuse) injuries. She and her husband, Jeremy, have 2 young children, Owen and Ivy, and reside in Dover.
Why cash-based PT??
1. Ethics: We work for you, not for the
insurance companies. Because insurance is not involved, it can't dictate your care, you simply get the focused treatments you need. Less visits are generally needed to achieve your goals vs carving out time to come 3x/wk for 6 wks.

2. Direct Access: Ohio allows you to
come directly to outpatient PT with
no physician referral needed. Isn't that
awesome?! Time is of the essence
when you lose mobility or pain is
limiting you.

3. 1:1 Care: Your appt is yours and
yours only. Your therapist will tailor your
plan of care to your needs, & you will NOT
be passed off to an aide for "cookie cutter"
exercises you can perform on your own at home.
We know your time is valuable, and want your time
spent with us to focus on problem-solving, by
actually correcting faulty movements and teaching
you WHY those corrections will help you
move easier/feel better, vs. simply
watching you exercise. Anyone can find
exercise videos on YouTube nowadays,
but are those programs right for you? Let us
help you navigate and take the guesswork out
of that, so you don't make things worse.
Our rehab programs treat
the individual, not the diagnosis.
